The Mercantile Building Society is a progressive, regional, building society established in 1875 in the North East of England. The Mercantile will only consider opening new investment accounts for those residing in Northumberland, Durham and Tyne & Wear. Those who were not existing Mercantile members before 13th March 2000 and who wish to open a new Mercantile investment account must agree to assign any future windfall conversion benefits to which they might become entitled to 'The Community Foundation Serving Tyne & Wear and Northumberland' for a period of five years. |
